Editorial

Welcome to the sixth issue of Baffling Magazine, and the second issue of Year Two. The stories in this issue are more optimistic, in my humble opinion, and a great way to usher in a brighter 2022.

Here are futuristic vignettes that explore queer lives in high-tech environments, including military SF (“Assimilation”), cryogenics (“Pod 530217-A”) and post-humanity (“Elastic Collisions”). “Brighter Than Stars” is a decadent fantasy that simmers with sensuality; “To Exhale the Sky” is a poetic piece of Afrosurrealism; “The Little Time We Have” is an unashamedly romantic piece of flash fiction.

This issue, like all issues of Baffling, includes voices from across the queer spectrum. We look forward to providing more queer and trans speculative fiction—and artwork—that challenges, disturbs and entertains in the new year.

Enjoy!

Note from the Publisher: While this is Baffling’s January issue, the technical publication date for the stories in this issue is December 31, 2021. This is to clarify any discrepancies that might come from their initial appearance on our Patreon during October, November and December 2021.
